We are off to FPRI a very influential foreign policy think tank in Philadelphia for a closed door session on US-Muslim relations.

Yesterday we had three very intense, thought provoking and thoughtful seminars. First with over 60 UD students, then with about 45 UD faculty and graduate students. The President of the University, Dr. Harker hosted us to an intimate luncheon at his official residence and the we rounded up the evening with a fabulous dinner and a two hour session with  the Wilmington World Affairs Council. The evening was remarkable for its graciousness and the candidness of the exchange.

Jan 7th, 8.00 PM: Delawareans have already started debating the Dialogue even before it began. The debate is taking place in the comments section of Delaware online in response to a article covering the Dialogue. To read more and participate click here.

The University of Delaware is organizing a series of dialogues between scholars from the Middle East and American scholars and the public. The dialogue will take place in January 2009. The dialogue is funded by a state department cultural exchange grant.

The dialogue will essentially explore the role that faith plays in America and in Muslim societies in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. It will attempt to bring a shared understanding to bridge the widening gulf between America and the Muslim World.

The topics that will be covered include the role of faith in the public sphere, Interfaith relations, US-Muslim relations, President Obama and the Muslim World, Anti-Americanism and Islamophobia.

We will use this portal to share the dialogue with all those who seek to participate.  Video, pictures and articles that will come out of this dialogue will be posted here.
